Three new officers graduate, join Maine Marine Patrol

HALLOWELL, ME – Three new enforcement officers graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy during a ceremony held at Thomas College in Waterville on May 25 and immediately became official members of the Maine Marine Patrol.

The new officers – Jason Leavitt, David Ross, and Specialist Corrie Roberts – were sworn-in after the ceremony by Department of Marine Resources Commissioner George Lapointe.

Leavitt and Ross are both graduates of the Conservation Law Enforcement Program at Unity College where they received their bachelor of science degrees. Roberts graduated from the University of California and holds a bachelor of arts degree in biology.

Leavitt, who formerly worked for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, has been assigned to the Eastport patrol. Ross ranked second in his graduating class of 60 at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and formerly worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers patrolling the Cape Cod Canal in Massachusetts. He has been assigned to the Kennebunkport patrol.

Roberts most recently ran the 35' research vessel Alice Siegmund for the Island Institute. She has been assigned to captain the 46' patrol vessel Guardian III based in Rockland.

The marine patrol is actively recruiting although, according to patrol sources, there are currently five unfunded marine patrol positions in the state.

More information on the Maine Marine Patrol is available online at <www.maine.gov/dmr/bmp/homepage.html>. For information on the online application and hiring process go to <www.maine.gov/dmr/jobop/patrolofficer.htm>
