Atlantic herring public hearings

The public hearing schedule for Amendment 1 to the New England Fishery Management Council"s Atlantic Herring Fishery Management Plan (FMP) and Amendment 2 to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission"s (ASMFC) Interstate FMP for Atlantic Herring follows below.

The council and ASMFC will both take public comment " though at separate times " during six of the hearings listed below. Plus, ASMFC will hold two additional hearings in Portsmouth, NH and Old Lyme, CT to take comments specific to the interstate herring plan.

The hearing dates are:

• Oct. 4 " Portsmouth, NH at the Urban Forestry Center, 45 Elwyn Road, ASMFC hearing only, 7 pm;

• Oct. 12 " Portland, ME at the Eastland Park Hotel, 157 High Street, 6 pm;

• Oct. 13 " Rockport, ME at the Samoset Resort, 220 Warrenton Street, 6 pm;

• Oct. 14 " Perry, ME at the Perry Elementary School, 1587 US Route 1, 6 pm;

• Oct. 17 " Fairhaven, MA at the Hampton Inn, 1 Hampton Way, 6 pm;

• Oct. 19 " Gloucester, MA at the Division of Marine Fisheries Annisquam River Station, 30 Emerson Avenue, 6 pm;

• Oct. 20 " Cape May, NJ at the Congress Hall Hotel, 251 Beach Avenue, 6 pm; and

• Oct. 24 " Old Lyme, CT at the Boating Education Center, 333 Ferry Road, ASMFC hearing only, 7 pm.

The deadline for public comment on the council"s amendment is Oct. 24.
